Starting in the fall of 2010, Chicago Art Department will be THE art department for Perspectives Charter School on State and Archer streets, launching a monthly art program for their middle and high school students. CAD members and residents will meet with students once a month, leading the group through art making practices and producing pieces to install inside of their school location. At the end of the school year CAD will host an exhibition inside of their gallery space (1837 South Halsted), showcasing student work and providing a forum for artists and audience to interact.
With this program CAD is aiming to expand the idea of learning for its resident artists, while also enriching the lives of Chicago youth through art making. Beyond technical skills, students will be encouraged to embrace contemporary social issues and how to address what matters to them. By trying, making, and sharing art, CAD aims to inspire Perspectives students and prepare them for next steps in their lives.
I taught a video drawing class based on exercises developed in a CAD class that i ran called Reactionary drawing.
